-stoff is another fun one. As in Wasserstoff, Sauerstoff, or Stickstoff (hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen) Because of course it's WATERSTUFF :)

But yes, our grammar is dreadful. I've been doing possessive pronouns with my son and he loathes them too. (Especially the dative, which no German ever really uses any more it seems).
