I am a cyborg now.

In the least dramatic way possible (during cataract surgery they implant a new corrective lens to replace the cataract-y old one) but nevertheless, a cyborg.

I can see much, much better out of my right eye. The other one is still crap (and before the surgery it used to be my "good eye"!), but I'll get surgery on that one in the next few months. In the meantime, I still have much improved vision overall. And I've got colors back, yay! Everything had been very dull, hazy, and yellowed.

In other news, the Good Omens miniseries is mostly great (I like it better than the book in some ways, not all to do with Aziraphale/Crowley). Has anybody else watched it yet?

Thank you, on both counts. I don't think I have it in me to do a long, detailed GO post yet, and I'd want to rewatch it first anyway. But here's the short version: visually gorgeous, scarier and more serious than the book in some ways and less likely to flog a joke (e.g. the Them) to death, deeper and more consistent characterization for everybody including minor characters who needed it (like the Youngs), excellent performances (especially Michael Sheen as Aziraphale), and a willingness to write Aziraphale and Crowley as outright romance, although chickening out a bit at the end on that one.

Cons: too much explain-y voice over, a bit too cautious about possibly offending Christians, some tweeness about Family that isn't in the book, one small loose end that could be upsetting to people who don't know how it's resolved in the book.

But on the whole I think it's better than the book (and I like the book). The story has a stronger, clearer structure because consistency and characterization aren't sacrificed for the sake of cleverness or jokes.

Cool! I like but do not love the book; I have been hearing nothing but good things about Sheen and Tennant's performances but not as much about the rest of the miniseries; and that all sounds really attractive.

I think it's well worth a look. My recommendation is to give it through the first half of episode 3. If it's not working for you by then, it probably won't.
