I just spent almost $40 to get an at-home rapid COVID test delivered ($24 plus tax for the test itself, $8 delivery fee, $3 tip for the driver).

Very probably, it's just a combination of seasonal allergies and feeling cruddy from getting a flu shot yesterday. But cough + tight chest + muscle aches and tiredness = I'd better not go to work tomorrow without testing.

And if I don't have COVID, tomorrow I will buy another test kit to keep at home in case of future need. I don't begrudge the fee or the especially the tip, but . .


ETA: Negative, yay! I'll retest in a couple of days, as the instructions recommend, but I feel pretty confident that I'm fine. There's a distinct "sick" feeling that I get when I'm sick as opposed to having allergies, which I don't really have today despite feeling yucky. But it seemed like a good idea to be cautious and test.

The one I bought had 2 tests in the box, and I only used one before heading to the dentist, as I have a mild cough. Didn't cough at the dentist's so now I'm wondering if it's the dust in my house. The dental staff are keeping their space extraordinarily clean. My test was the Abbott brand. I am thinking of buying several boxes in advance so that five of us can be tested on the day of my mother's birthday in order to decide whether or not we should eat together, maskless and indoors.

Mine is the same brand and also had 2 tests, but I think it might be a good idea to always have a box on hand.

I got a negative result, yay! But the instructions say you should retest a couple of days after a negative, to confirm.

I got a negative, so it looks like it's just post-vax crud on top of ragweed crud. I'll retest in a couple of days, but I'm probably fine. Thanks for the good wishes!

My allergies are pretty bad right now and I hate having to explain to everyone because I get weird looks at school :)

One could cynically say they just want to sell more kits, but timing matters. If you were exposed yesterday, for example, and rushed to test, it would be too soon and you'd get a negative result, even if you were to show positive in a few days. I was exposed almost a month ago. Yesterday's home home test was the third negative I've had since then (I waited five days after exposure for the first test, then had a PCR test a week after that), so I am not going to do the box's suggested follow-up soon. But I'm glad to have it in the house.

Hooray for a negative test! It's spring and allergy season over here, so we keep getting people coming in sneezing behind their masks begging for antihistamines and promising it's not COVID.

Have you been vaccinated? At least then if you do get it, it should be very mild.
