six sentence sunday

Some sentences from my WIP. This is a newly added bit from early in the story.

Young Ed and his grandmother have a chat, under the cut.

She sat on the ground, and he sat next to her. "This is where I first saw the ship," she told him. "She'd been damaged in a storm and put in here to make repairs. My Edward was a carpenter's mate." The last bit was in English. It was strange to hear her speak it again. "He didn't want to stay, so I went."

"Were you scared?"

"Oh yes. But I don't regret leaving, and I don't regret coming back. I wish we could have come back sooner, for your mum's sake, but . . . " She shrugged. Ed was pretty sure that she'd offered, that she'd begged, even when his dad was alive, but mum had said no. He'd heard mum praying sometimes at night. Married in the sight of God, as long as we live.
