As far as I know, tonight's results won't yet include mail-in ballots. There were a lot of those this year, in states that allowed them. And mail-in voters tend to vote heavily Democratic. So if they're counted, it could make a difference.

I say if because Trump will, of course, try to prevent them from being counted.



None of this affects the despair I feel that half my fellow citizens have looked back at Trump's presidency and said, "Yeah, I'll have more of that."

Yes, I think a lot of Australia is watching pretty closely! I'm not at work today, so that's what I'm doing. Even my mum (93) is glued to the TV. She's said she hopes Kamala Harris wins! Same here.

Do mail-in voters tend to be Democrats because they're the people who can think ahead?

I haven't seen an explanation, though I'm sure one/several are around. For 2020 it had a lot to do with Covid, since the right tended to be Covid deniers or minimizers who didn't worry about in-person voting.

I've been intermittently watching an election night stream by British comedian Sooz Kempner. US elections affect the whole world. Sadly.
