i am impressed

I just watched American Gods 1x03, and I would like to report that it features the most explicit male/male sex scene I have ever seen outside of actual porn. (There are erections.) It's also beautifully shot, tender, and very, very erotic. And the two men having sex happen to be immigrants and Muslims.

I'm enjoying American Gods very much for its beauty and strangeness, but even if it doesn't sound like your kind of story overall, I can recommend it for this scene alone (if you like that sort of thing, of course). In fact it's part of a self-contained little story, not connected as far as I can tell to the overall plot, so you can watch it all by itself. The mini-story starts at 26:17 in episode 3.

I am really appreciating how this show uses nudity! When characters are consenting to nudity in the scene (like the Bilquis scenes and this lovely one) it's full frontal. When they're not consenting (like the slaves on the ship who summoned Anansi) it's respectfully filmed so that they're not fully exposed. It's a great contrast and makes me enjoy the happy nudity so much more knowing that it's not being used elsewhere as shame.

It was a gorgeous scene, and really beautifully shot. The whole show is - I'm messing around with icons at the moment, and the screencaps are so beautiful all by themselves.

I love it when a interpretation of a work adds to it - I loved the book but it had some issues, most of which were pacing, and the series is doing a great job of lifting or slowing the pace exactly where the story needs it.

It was a great highlight of what has been so far a great show. Oh Bryan Fuller *pats him* He is the change I'd like to see in network television for sure.
