Last night I discovered that Anil and Mike streaming separately--which I had assumed to be a consequence of COVID-19--actually predates the pandemic. It was a way to do two streams weekly instead of one.*

I am, to put it mildly, disappointed.

It also feels like a rare instance of Rusty Quill misjudging its audience. The target audience for RQS, it seems to me, isn't people who are strongly interested in video games. They're already watching a zillion streams with, frankly, more skillful players. The audience is people who are neutral to curious about video games, but who really like other Rusty Quill stuff and enjoy virtually hanging out with Anil and Mike and watching them have fun together.

In other words, me. Please cater more to me!


(*That's what Anil said, anyway. Given recent developments, I hope it wasn't really that Mike said one too many clueless things and Anil noped out.)

Thanks for the heads-up. I watched it yesterday and it was awesome. So much chaos, and also Jonny's shocking past as a bacon criminal before being redeemed by the unexpected love of Sasha. And I didn't know Sasha is nonbinary, so that was cool. (There's a moment early on when Jonny uses "he" to refer to Sasha, and I went "Bzuh?" Somehow I either didn't see the she/he/they pronouns in Sasha's Twitter bio, or they were added fairly recently.)

I am consumed with envy and admiration of Sasha's current haircut (my hair won't stand up like that, at least not naturally and I don't have the energy for gel).

I am also very admiring of Frank's levels of Done-ness at all times.

I enjoyed chat instantly being like "enemies to friends to lovers, 50K" and "and they were housemates (oh my god they were housemates)". Also Jonny being oblivious to the "enemies" bit at the time.

I think the pronouns have been there for a bit (I remember going "oh hey, cool" when I noticed), but I didn't know whether Sasha ids as nonbinary or genderfluid or [other term I don't know yet]. Anyway, as it happens they just posted about it:

I think there is an audience for Anil's solo streams because I'm in it? He plays a lot of the stuff I could see myself investing in (slower, puzzle based, not as violent) and while the manic energy is fun, I also enjoy the chiller times. But I also watch streams of artists doing digital art and chatting with the six people in chat. With isolation I find it's nice to have low energy engagement that's still being social with other people.

Anil's type of game definitely appeals to me more than Mike's. I just really enjoy how the two of them interact. For me, the two of them always streaming together, but Anil always picking the games, would be perfect. (Especially if they're all as weird as Hatoful Boyfriend.)

That would be really nice! I usually bounce after the opening if they're doing a shoot 'em up. Like, I know they're trying to showcase a bunch of different game types but ugh, I hate those. (she says, having gleefully consumed Jonny do nothing but kill monsters for hours).
