a daily meme

I'm pretty significantly late to this, but I just discovered this question-a-day meme which seems interesting enough to do. I keep wanting to post more regularly and not being able to think of anything to say.

So here goes, for July 31, 2020:

31 If you had to choose one or the other, would you rather live where it’s hot all the time or cold all the time?

Cold. Blessed, blessed cold.

I mean, I don't actually like genuinely freezing cold weather. My ideal climate would be one where it's sweater-and-light-coat weather all the time. Maybe a couple of weeks in high summer of where you can take your jacket off in the afternoon, and a couple of weeks in midwinter with snow.

But if I had to pick between, say, every day is around 32F/0C, or every day is around 86F/30C, I would go for the cold. Because (for me) the discomfort of cold is easier to accommodate than the discomfort of heat. I like to wear lots of clothes!

He said, sweating. Blergh.

I have always phrased this as: "I can always put on layers. I can't take off my skin." I am not a fan of global warming.

I would definitely choose hot, as unpleasant as trying to accommodate for heat is, because I lived in the desert growing up and have developed all sorts of fun health problems as an adult that get worse in cool weather and humidity. Of course, if it was hot and humid, that would be another story.

Same! I live in a fairly moderate climate with occasional extreme heat in summer. Which is also when we're at high risk for catching on fire. I've hated summer since childhood* but it's only got worse over the years now that I have two autoimmune conditions that react badly to heat.

*My mum also tends to faint if she overheats and I inherited that as well as developing the other issues. Not great!

It's a cliche, but it's all about the humidity. I'm so glad to be out of sub-tropical Auckland where it was sticky-sweaty in summer and miserable-damp-to-wet in winter. I'd pick hot all the time if it was like Israel - lovely and dry so you don't feel the heat or even sweat but you do have to to drink lots of water. But then I'd pick cold if it was like Germany - crisp and snowy and invigorating. I enjoyed them both when I lived there, so hard choice!

I prefer cold over warm, mostly because it's easier to generate warm than it is to shed it. And because I like snow.
