best. hat. ever.

I'm skimming through random shows with Christopher Neame in them. Here's a screenshot from an episode of The Protectors, which aired in 1974. Neame played a baddie in stylin' 1970s fashions (and, from what I could tell, the same car as Peter Guillam in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy).

It's hilarious and yet it's . . . kind of sexy in that androgynous glam David Bowie way.

Nevertheless, I am thankful that he's best known for 1940s period dramas.

Slightly sexy, yes. BUT MAINLY FUNNY.

I think it's mostly the juxtaposition of the ultra-floppy velvet hat and the fur coat that does it. The hat would take on a v. different context against a plain cashmere overcoat.

And yes, it does have a David Bowie hotness to it.
