Serious Thoughts on rewatching Colditz S1
Nov. 18th, 2011 10:33 amI'd forgotten how much this show likes an excuse to show Dick Player in states of undress.
Here's our Dick in his very first episode, being processed as a new arrival in Colditz.

(Er, he's bending over to sign something.) This isn't the first "prisoner intake" scene on the show, but oddly enough the earlier one mostly showed headshaving and other such unsexiness and nobody got naked.
Four episodes later, lovely Dick is quite quite naked, this time voluntarily, accompanied by his friend Pat Grant (less naked, probably because less pretty).

That is of course soap on Dick's face, not anything else you might have been imagining, you dirty-minded pervert.
Throughout that scene, by the way, they quite nonchalantly share the soap. And soap isn't regulation issue, it's a personal possession that prisoners had to buy for themselves using scrip. In another episode we see the two of them casually pass a cigarette back and forth. Hmmm.
(Colditz isn't a highly subtexty show, but I can always find subtext.)
Speaking of which, the scene at the end of 1x06, "The Spirit of Freedom," when (spoiler for that episode) (skip) Dick is cleaning tortured!Phil Carrington's face, is tender and quite slashy really. It makes me wish I liked Phil Carrington so that I could ship them. I don't know why I don't like him, except that he's pushed so heavily as the Dashing American Hero, a trope I find tedious. And Robert Wagner isn't half the actor any of the others are, so Carrington comes off as one-dimensional.
Back again to 1x07, which I am currently rewatching: it's basically a "Dick is whumped repeatedly" episode. He gets to be cold and rained on and miserable and then he catches Pretty Pneumonia and suffers beautifully. I currently have a nasty cold/bronchitis, and I'm not sure whether to empathize or hate him for being pretty whilst sick.
ETA: A little later in 1x07 Dick gets (nearly) naked again! I'd forgotten that.
ETA2: 1x09 and once again we have partially-naked!Dick. Although this time he's tunnelling, so he's covered with mud and wearing a rag on his head, and thus possibly not to everyone's taste.
