3 months of work. I . . . think I'm very proud of it? I've spent so long revising it that it's hard to say right now.

I keep thinking of tags I could add, if I did chatty wall-of-tags stuff, which I don't. Things like "way more dick jokes than I expected" and "300+ uses of the word 'fuck'" and "in some ways this is more a gen story with sex and romance in it than a pairing story" and "I swear to god it has a happy ending, just keep going" and "Ed is not a theologian" and "Ed has a bone to pick with Shakespeare" and "the untagged pairing is Ed/cake."

God, I hope people don't hate it.

I wrote this for ourflagmeansgay, which is running the first of a series of character- and pairing-focused prompt fests, the first character being Roach. Posted it, got crickets for twelve hours, began to think that maybe I was being a dickhead for posting something so dark to a community that's more about the fun.* (Also, because the format over there is commentfic, there was no way to put this behind a cut, which bothered me.)

So I've pulled it from the community and am reposting here. I may or may not ever post it to AO3.
