kindkit: A late-Victorian futuristic zeppelin. (Airship)
This is my first post for the Colditz rewatch that [livejournal.com profile] halotolerant and I are co-hosting. I'm a little bit early, but discussion of 1x01 seems to have ended and I have to confess I'm in a bit of a hurry to get past these first two episodes.

"Missing, Presumed Dead" introduces Flight Lieutenant Simon Carter (David McCallum), a recently-married bomber pilot who at first glance looks like classic hero material: he indignantly refuses an opportunity for transfer to the safer (!) post of a test pilot, and he makes bold and persistent, not to say foolhardy, escape attempts after being shot down over Germany on the very next mission after his refusal. For his trouble he gets captured, recaptured, beaten by a Gestapo officer, mocked by the camp commandant for incompetence (in his final escape attempt of the episode he travels in an enormous circle and is recaptured four miles from the camp), and finally told he's being sent to Colditz. Yes, two episodes down now and the show still hasn't actually introduced Colditz except as a name.

WARNING: There will be spoilers in comments for future episodes. Discussion is welcome either here or on LJ, but I'm going to be posting my main comments on LJ because that's the forum the other participants use.
