I'm not going to say things like 'm/m relationships central to the narrative' or "historically accurate depiction of queer life" because those are more like standards than tropes...
So I'll go with soldiers, pairings who get under each other's skin and often do hurtful things to each other but who ultimately are the most important person in the world to each other.

You're mostly right about soldiers, I think, though I'd modify it a bit: professional soldiers, career soldiers, don't generally interest me as much as temporary soldiers who've joined up or been conscripted because of a war. I think it's because although war stories fascinate me, I am uncomfortable with the military ethos and I prefer to focus on people who fight because circumstances don't leave them much choice.
