1) He's pretty sure he's never seen potato-flavored yogurt anywhere else, or Soft Meat Jello Cups which have ominous little bits suspended in them, and although he tried fried grasshoppers as a kid, visiting his tia Dolores in Mexico, he's never seen them north of the border in a supermarket chain.
2) The woman who answered the door didn't look much like an enemy.
3) John was soon admitted to the library, with which he could not find as much fault as he wished, it being well-lighted with large windows and stocked with volumes which were neither musty nor, from the varied appearance of age upon their spines, bought by the hundredweight.
