I just finished watching the last episode of S1 of Broadchurch.

Floods of tears. What a fantastic series. Okay, dubious police procedures, but emotionally just about perfect.

Is S2 also good, or does it ruin the exquisitely crafted story that is S1 by trying to continue it?

S2 had a level "that's not how the law works, right???" But Olivia Colman was sooooooooo worth the bumps.

It's a very different show on some level, and it's somehow MORE frustrating, because we're used to seeing stuff not work or go wrong during an investigation, but it feels worse, I think, when they are caught, guilty, and still may go free...

The character interaction is just as good, but I personally liked S1 better...

S2 is not what S1 was, plotwise, but the characters made it worth it for me, definitely. They add a bunch of new characters - I love Marianne Jean-Baptiste's QC, and James D'Arcy's rough trade villain was kind of mind-blowing.

Agreed. I thought S2 was pretty unnecessary (& there's an s3 coming, apparently) but the casting you noted (also, Charlotte Rampling!) had me gobbling it up anyway.

Oh, I was trying to remember if that storyline was S1 or 2! Yes, she was brilliant, I was so there for [those characters doing that thing].

I still haven't watched it. Partly because I got spoiled for the ending when it had just aired (I mean I didn't care massively at the time, but nonetheless it decreased my inclination whereas otherwise I would probably have given it a shot)

The new series of Endeavour just finished, and was fairly solid. Quite strong on the Endeavour-Thursday relationship *g* Made me want to go back and watch 'Lewis' again, actually - the early seasons anyway. Neither show is up to 'Morse' in writing, I think, but very soothing in their way.
