Yesterday I posted about Brooklyn 99. Today it has been cancelled. Am I the kiss of death or what?

Other shows I loved that have been cancelled this year include The Exorcist and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

It may not be  coincidence that all three shows included characters of color in major roles and that two of them had queer characters in major roles (and in the third, Dirk Gently was heavily coded as some flavor of queer).

B99 picked up by NBC, I hear? But crap about The Exorcist.

It may be relevant to your interests to know that I finally made it past 1x03 of Black Sails, and it actually does get so, so much better towards the end of S1, and S2 is then probably one of the better series of TV I've watched. The protagonists increasingly make somewhat better choices (not necessarily ones that go well, but they're trying, and less betrayal-y, or at least the 'betrayals' are generally people frantically trying to Do The Right Thing) and the characters are so much more fleshed out. The writing/inclusion of queer people and women is good, and even though I was pretty spoiled for Flint/Hamilton I was still pleasantly surprised by how it was actually written and delivered.

My main issue with it at present is that sheer ridiculous 21st century attractiveness of everyone - all the ladies with their uninterrupted eyeshadow supplies and the men maintaining attractive stubble etc, but some do better than others.
