please encourage AO3 to correct deadnaming

I've just noticed that the AO3's canonical tag for a nonbinary character in Our Flag Means Death deadnames them.

Jim's canonical tag is "Bonifacia "Jim" Jimenez," even though Jim doesn't call themself Bonifacia, and corrects their nana the one time she does.

I've put in a support request asking for this to be changed, and you can too.


ETA: I'm very happy to say I was mistaken and this was not, in fact, the canonical tag. It was changed a while ago to the non-deadnaming "Jim Jimenez." I should have researched it more, but I also wish AO3 made it a little easier to see which tag forms are canonical and which aren't.

Hey, sorry for the drive-by comment, but I happened to see this post and wanted to let you know that the tag was changed to Jim Jimenez about a month ago. You were definitely not the only person to raise this (rightfully!). The wrangler changed it as soon as support let them know about the requests, but the fandom exploded so quickly that I'm sure there are a lot of fics using the short-lived deadname canonical, and those uses can only be updated by the authors, unfortunately. Again, sorry for butting in — I'm a tag wrangler (not for OFMD) and happened to notice when the change went through because I similarly felt it needed an update.

Oh, thank you! The fic I saw the tag on was fairly recent, so I guess I assumed that was the canonical. I'm really glad to hear it got changed.
