Sanctuary 4x02, "Uprising"

I finally got around to watching "Uprising."
I'm fairly meh about it. The storyline was badly structured, and what I thought should have been the big reveal--a US government plan to experiment on abnormals--was treated as a throwaway. And the timing of the plan didn't make sense--it was too detailed to have been developed on the spur of the moment after the Hollow Earth abnormals started showing up, plus experiments had already been happening. This had to have been an ongoing project. Maybe that's going to be this season's big plot arc, but in that case, someone might have mentioned something about that rather than Will talking about an abnormal insurrection as the big new threat.
I don't want Kate to leave. It's strange, because I really didn't like her at first, but she grew on me and I think the show's going to lose something without her. Plus, getting rid of the only actor of color in the main cast isn't a good thing.
I also didn't like that apparently no one writing the show now remembers or cares that Henry and the Big Guy are supposed to be super-close. Henry's wounded? Let's get Kate to make sure he's all right. She's the girl, she must be the compassionate one, right? Never mind that (a) Henry and the Big Guy were supposed to be super-close, (b) the Big Guy is at least a qualified nurse, if not actually a doctor, and (c) it's the Big Guy who's gentle and soft-hearted, not Kate. All that matters, it seems, is that we must not have two male characters touch each other. *spits* I miss Henry and the Big Guy's S1/early S2 dynamic so much.
On the plus side, it finally occurred to someone that Abby, as an FBI agent, ought to be moderately competent at something! I like competent!poised!Abby much more than I liked dithering!cutesy!FBI-Barbie!Abby, and if she's going to take Kate's place as The Other Woman On the Show, at least it looks like I won't have to cringe every time she's onscreen. On the other hand, I didn't love that her success at gathering information came mostly from having a string of high placed ex-boyfriends. Yeesh.
I still haven't seen 4x03 and 4x04, so please, no spoilers.
ETA: Just watched the beginning of 4x03, and I need to say: ARRRRRRGHHH NO NO NO NO NO NO. NO UNEXPECTED PREGNANCY STORYLINE, NO DADDY!HENRY OR MARRIED!HENRY OR WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY'RE DOING. NO, DO NOT WANT! DO NOT WANT ALL THIS HETEROSEXUALITY ON MY SHOW, NO!
ALSO WTF HAS NO ONE ON TV EVER HEARD OF CONTRACEPTION?!
*sobs*

Date: 2011-10-31 02:10 am (UTC)I can't even with the pregnancy. I had a special cringe on your behalf when that came up. And personally, I'd love to have gotten to know Erica as a character before she had to be a (really creepy) plot-device.
This show! It's so incredibly unbalanced. Huge win and huge fail at the same time in the same show, I can't handle it.
