kindkitIt's snowy here and I have the day off, so I thought I'd cook mung bean stew with greens and coconut milk. I was quite excited about this. And then I discovered that the mung beans I just bought a few days ago (from Whole Foods!) are completely infested with insects. To make matters worse, I discovered this after having dumped them into the pot with the onion and garlic and ginger, so nothing at all was recoverable.
Mung beans seem particularly prone to this for some reason. At least, it's happened to me twice, with beans from different sources in two different parts of the country. I guess I should be glad that this time I discovered the problem before the bugs had taken over my entire cupboard. (Ever since then, I keep all bulk/dry food in sealed plastic bags, just in case.)
Luck is really not with me these last few days.
