my last two days, summarized

1) Out of random curiosity, watch a talk show appearance by Benedict Cumberbatch.
2) Discover that in interviews Benedict Cumberbatch is low-key, modest, charming, thoughtful, and well-spoken.
3) Discover that some of the alienness of his appearance on Sherlock must be due to make-up, lighting, and body language, and that he is also capable of looking like this:

4) Fall in love with Benedict Cumberbatch.
5) Discover that he is straight. Feel sad about this.
6) Decide to WATCH ALL THE THINGS he's in anyway. Or at least the ones that don't focus on a heterosexual relationship his character's having.
ETA: 7) Decide to prove my cred by mentioning that, although my crush is new, I first noticed Benedict Cumberbatch when he was in Amazing Grace. I posted a review in early 2007 that mentions Cumberbatch's excellent performance as William Pitt.

Date: 2012-01-19 03:42 am (UTC)It's strange now to think of him as Eleven, because Matt Smith has made the role so much his own and Cumberbatch would, I think, have done very different things with it. And in the end the writing would've had to reflect that performance instead of Smith's, so we'd have a totally different Doctor. I'm envisioning a much chillier Doctor, more unfathomable and difficult, although I may be reading too much of Sherlock into him.

Date: 2012-01-19 04:07 am (UTC)Or, here's a thought: Benedict Cumberbatch as the Master. But not to Matt Smith's Doctor. B.C. should player the Master opposite David Tennant in a hypothetical "Three Doctors" episode (or more likely "Two Doctors," since I've read that Christopher Eccleston won't consider coming back even for a special). Although I loved John Simm's Master, I think that iteration's been taken about as far as he can be. And, honestly, I just really want to see two tall slim attractive elegant men having subtext together.

This is never wrong, though.
