Work potluck on Saturday. I've signed up to bring a rice dish, and am thinking of making this delicious rice with yogurt, mustard seeds, and curry leaves. But I'm worried that my co-workers will find it too unfamiliar and will hate it. Alternatively, I could make a pulao with saffron, cashews, and golden raisins. It's also tasty but not as irresistibly savory as the other one, in my opinion. Or perhaps I should bring something not-Indian. A lot (not all) of my coworkers are pretty young and possibly not very experienced/adventurous in what they eat.

What do you think?

I'm not denying that the curd rice is the superior *recipe* but the mild dish with fruit and nuts is likely to be more of a crowd-pleaser.

With the pulao, I'd be worried about falling afoul of allergies. Most of the events we go to have bans on both tree nuts and peanuts. Most of the events we go to are related to my daughter's school which has the ban in place due to the high number of kids with such allergies, and this may well not be a concern for any of your coworkers.

Can you put a sign on it to say it's mild? I'd be wary of an unfamiliar dish with mustard seeds and curry leaves if I didn't know how hot it might be. And pulao is tasty too!

I don't think there's anything too scary in the yoghurt dish - and I think if you mark it mild, and also vegetarian, it shouldn't be too off-putting to people who are inexperience with Indian food. (Gluten-free, too, maybe?)

I'd eat it, anyway.
