If, like me, you've been looking at the latest AO3 deploy and saying "What? How did this even happen?," I recommend reading Github, transparency, and the OTW archive project by
skud.
skud, who is an experienced professional software developer, clearly explains, based on publicly available documentation, how coding projects are being managed by the OTW (not very well) and how that affects the quality of the releases. The comments are also well worth a look; it saddens me to see how many experienced coders who wanted to help out have been put off by the OTW's lack of transparency and its hierarchical, bureaucratic way of dealing with volunteers. Or worse yet, have simply had their offers ignored.
