I'm watching Sanctuary 4x06, "Homecoming." Those who know me and watched the episode may be able to predict what I'm about to say next: spoilers for this and other aired Sanctuary episodes and Warehouse 13 )

I haven't actually seen the Warehouse 13 season finale yet, but I deliberately spoiled myself by looking at someone else's reaction post. And big spoilers )

You guys, if you're not watching Warehouse 13, you should be. Because it's really just about everything that most of us keep saying we want.

Genre show with fun plots and geektastic historical and fannish references? Check. Ensemble of interesting and well-developed characters? Check. Women characters with personalities and agency and plotlines of their own? Check, check, check. Canonically queer characters? Two of 'em, one now in the main cast and one recurring. Characters of color in a variety of roles? Check--two recurring characters (although I haven't seen as much of either as I'd like, lately) and a decent number of guest stars.

I'm not going to claim the show is perfect. I still find the two leads less interesting than the rest of the ensemble. It would be nice to see some people of color in the main cast. Occasionally, there is fail.

Nevertheless, with this new season W13 has become my favorite currently airing show. I'd like to see more people watching, partly because a fandom would be nice, partly because, as I said, this is the show that's giving us what we keep saying we want, and we ought to support it and let the SyFy channel know that we'd like to see more of this kind of program. SyFy is taking some risks with this (especially including Actual Queer Characters) and I'd love to see those risks pay off in more viewers.

So I encourage you to give it a try. The first few episodes are not the best, but things pick up (especially after the introduction of an additional character a few eps in) and so far the show has just gotten better and better.

wheee!

Today I discovered a Warehouse 13 episode I hadn't seen--the Christmas episode from the end of last season. So I streamed it on the SyFy website, even though I ultimately had to use IE because nothing I did would make it load properly in Firefox. (Dear SyFy network: you might want to fix that, because it's a pain in the ass.)

It wasn't really a great episode, except for one thing )

The only downside is, I now have Christmas carols stuck in my head.

This week's Warehouse 13 was silly fun, if a bit "let's pull a premise out of our asses!" I thought it was pretty awesome to see not really spoilery for anything, but cut anyway )

In other news, part of my work on my XMFC story today was inventing Erik's worst memories, ones so bad he wouldn't want to think about them even as rage-fuel. It was fun in the way that's not. (I did not, for the record, go the "he was sexually abused" route. I still think it's plausible, and I still don't want to write it.)

yayness!

I just realized, from a prompt over at [livejournal.com profile] queer_fest, that slight spoilers for Warehouse 13 )

ETA: And having now met W13's H. G. Wells, spoilers for Warehouse 13 2x01 )

This post brought to you by the fact that I went to bed early because I'm feeling terrible, then woke up at 2:00 am and haven't been able to get back to sleep.

So. I've started watching Warehouse 13 after [personal profile] st_aurafina told me it had a bisexual character in it. And not word-of-god bisexual, nor implied bisexual, but really canonically acknowledged-onscreen bisexual. This is sufficiently rare in sff shows that it was inducement enough for me to give Warehouse 13 a try.

cut for length; I've avoided spoilers )
