I may be some time
Apr. 30th, 2013 10:52 amI have moved, mostly successfully despite a fun last-minute crisis when the apartment I was supposed to be moving into had just had its flooring replaced and the glue hadn't dried yet so I couldn't move in that day, but the movers (hired by my housemate without consulting me about the date) were at my old place and had loaded up my stuff. In the end I moved into a different unit, one which unfortunately has carpenting (I will have to buy a vacuum cleaner, not an expense I want at this point), but that's a small problem considering how badly things could have gone.
The bad news is that my computer, which has been giving me problems for months, did not like being moved. So far it has refused to boot. I'm running Startup Repair on it, but after more than twelve hours it's not fixed yet. I'm hoping the worst that will happen is that I have to do another clean reinstall, but the actual worst that could happen is that the poor thing has given up pining for the fjords and has joined the choir invisible. In that case, I'm going to need to look at my finances and see when/how I can afford to get another freaking computer. (Not a laptop this time, damn it. They're too fragile.)
Right now I'm using the library computer, and that may be my only computer access for a while. Updates as available.
One really annoying thing is that my computer is also how I watch TV and DVDs, so I'm reduced to (gasp!) reading books.
Must go now, so that I can go to the post office website and change my previous change-of-address to reflect the address I'm actually going to be at. And go over to my old apartment and clean stuff. And go shopping for more of the stuff I need for the new place. *considers bank account and winces*
