Endeavour 1x02

Which, leaving aside the fact that it's one of my least favorite tropes, doesn't leave the show anywhere much to go, since we're already over the top into ridiculousness.
I also wonder if anyone in the television-watching universe was surprised by the plot "twist" of not!Cronyn being the killer. It was obvious from the minute Cronyn turned up with his reptilian stare and his overcontrolled manner.
On a happier note, if I wasn't already shipping Morse/Thursday, I certainly would be after this episode. The scene where Thursday tucks the sleeping Morse's coat around him was tender and lovely.
The way Thursday's family refers to Morse as "one of daddy's" makes me think Thursday has had a string of young protegés. It reminds me of the bit in Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay where Sammy Clay's wife thinks about all friends Sammy has "had lunch" with over the years, and what it probably means. As for Thursday, I think he's become gently overfond of each young constable or sergeant in a way that's not quite paternal, or rather is paternal but is also something more. Morse is special, though. Thursday already knows Morse is going to be very, very special.
