Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Christopher Marlowe/William Shakespeare
Characters: Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare
Summary:Kit pours some wine into a new cup; the man sits down. His fingers are also stained with ink.
Excellent atmosphere and a nicely nuanced use of just enough period language.
The Importance of Being Ernest - Oscar Wilde
except in my affections (3576 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Importance of Being Earnest - Wilde
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Gwendolen Fairfax, Cecily Cardew, Algernon "Algy" Moncrieff, John "Jack" Worthing
Summary: "It would be very irresponsible of our husbands and wives to let us go wandering, in what must be an enchanted forest, without their close supervision. It's nearly certain that we are married to each other."
An adorable story that does a great job of keeping the tone of the play.
The King Must Die - Mary Renault
Moon Maids (1412 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The King Must Die Series - Mary Renault
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Thalestris/Original Female Character
Characters: Thalestris, Theseus
Summary: Thalestris falls in love with (and shows off to) her red-haired Amazon.
A nice look at the Bull Court (which is probably everyone's favorite section of the book) from the viewpoint of a character other than Theseus.
The Last of the Wine - Mary Renault
Cobbler's Tales (3315 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Last of the Wine - Mary Renault
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Sokrates, Phaidon | Phaedo, Euthydemos, Simon the Cobbler
Additional Tags: Female Characters, Original Characters - Freeform, Behind the Scenes, Philosophy, Father-Daughter Relationship, How to Make Shoes, Historical
Summary: Simon the Cobbler lives a quiet life with his wife and daughter, until Sokrates visits his shop.
This is a very good story that's gotten too little love. It takes a character who is barely mentioned in the novel and gives him and his family a deep, vivid presence. And I especially liked seeing the appeal of philosophy to characters whose lives are much more restricted than that of someone like Alexias.
The Left Hand of Darkness - Ursula Le Guin
Praise then Darkness (3724 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Left Hand of Darkness - Ursula K. Le Guin
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Arek Harth rem ir Estraven/Therem Harth rem ir Estraven
Characters: Arek Harth rem ir Estraven, Therem Harth rem ir Estraven
Additional Tags: Yuletide, Gift Fic
Summary: "My advice, Therem, is only this: will you let the story shape you, brother? Or will you shape a new tale?"
This explores backstory--Therem's semi-taboo love affair with his brother--that the novel only touches on, and it's absolutely heartbreaking. It also does a great job of reproducing the novel's subtle, restrained voice, including the use of folk tales.
My Beautiful Laundrette
Make and Mend (2515 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: My Beautiful Laundrette (1985)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Omar Ali/Johnny Burfoot
Characters: Omar Ali, Johnny Burfoot, Nasser Ali, Hussein Ali
Additional Tags: Post-Canon
Summary: Moving in together is Omar’s idea.
A realistic, sometimes painful, but hopeful look at Omar and Johnny a year or so after the film ends, as they're beginning to make a life together.
Windows 95 Tips
Ninety Five (1227 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Windows 95 Tips
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Windows 95
Additional Tags: Horror, Creepypasta
Summary: A collection of helpful tips to improve your Windows 95 experience.
I know I'm just adding to the chorus of praise for this one, but it's a very well done bit of creepiness.
