This is the first post in a (re)watch and discussion of Hannibal that
halotolerant and I are going to be doing. We'll take turns posting about episodes. My posts will be on both DW and LJ, but with discussion on LJ; Halo's posts will be on her LJ. Anyone's welcome to join in. The format is that the post will be a brief episode summary, with all discussion happening in comments.
SPOILER POLICY: I've seen S1 but not, as of now, beyond that, so please no spoilers for S2/S3.
Will Graham, a lecturer at the FBI academy, is recruited into fieldwork by Jack Crawford, head of the Behavioral Sciences unit. Crawford wants Will's help investigating the abduction of multiple young women in Minnesota.
Crawford also brings in Dr. Hannibal Lecter as a consultant, ostensibly to help profile the killer but really to keep an eye on Will, whose powerful empathy leaves him troubled and sufficiently unstable that he failed an FBI screening to become an agent.
Despite some confusion caused by a copycat killing (strongly implied to be committed by Lecter), Will identifies the murderer as Garret Jacob Hobbs. Lecter secretly warns Hobbs that he's been discovered; Hobbs responds by killing his wife and attempting to kill his daughter Abigail. He is then shot dead by Will. Will and Lecter save Abigail's life and the episode ends with the two of them in her hospital room.
