Jesus fucking Christ, why do people claim Tumblr is such a great interface?

I stupidly made an actual post over there, and now I have driven myself to tears of rage and frustration because I can't figure out how to edit it. I can't even click on it, because I accidentally didn't give it a title and that seems to have made it unclickable.

Help, please!?!

ETA: Crisis possibly averted, because I have worked out that the default theme doesn't let you do anything and switched to a theme that, by sheer good fortune, does. Still, what a terrible terrible posting interface.

The interface is srsly evil.

To edit, mouseover the post on your dash or your username.tumblr page and look for a tiny triangle to appear in the top right corner of the post in question. Click that -- it's the direct link to the post itself. Once that loads, at top right a menu will appear that gives you an Edit link.

At least this is how it works on my layout. I don't know if it's different between different layouts. Knowing tumblr, it probably is...so, good luck?

It baffles me. I look at Dailypros and that's pretty much it.

It's incredibly hard to use, hard to post to, hard to edit, and I hate it only slightly less than twitter.

Sigh...

Glad you figured it out. I think the special themes that make everything look completely different are evil...especially, when people get cute with it!

I have artist friends who like it a lot for being so easy to post art, and share other people's pictures around. And I've been told that people find it easier to find others with shared interests (because you can just look in the tags for something) than it is on LJ/DW/etc.

That's the only part that's made sense to me. I use it because I have a lot of friends who use tumblr more or less exclusively, and I want to hang out with them, but... I still don't really use it to talk to them. I talk to them in chats or elsewhere, mostly, and DW is still the online home of my heart. (Twitter's made a fair foothold too, but twitter is a totally different style of discourse, and not at all good for long conversations.) I haaaaaate the entire tumblr interface, and the underlying corporate attitude that goes with it.

I like it only for looking at pretty pictures. It is admittedly great at that. Now, if only people didn't try to have actual conversations there...

You pretty much need browser extensions to use it at all: I uninstalled xkit when I decided to stop posting there, and it instantly became pretty much unusable, and I think it's got worse since.

It is such a disaster of a site. Good for posting and sharing pretty pictures but that's it. (I use it for mindless distraction when I'm brain-fried.) I really don't understand why its the new based for fandom because it feels like such a step backwards from journal-based fandom in terms - especially since they killed replies - of interactivity/community/archiving.
