the joys of a Santa Fe spring

Yesterday it snowed off and on all day, but the snow didn't stick. Here's what I woke up to this morning.

A bit extreme, I feel. Temperatures are expected to rise back to normal within a couple of days, but in the meantime, I'm confused, and I imagine so are all the animals and plants.

That seems a lot to me! I hear from lots of others in the northern hemisphere that they've had unseasonal snow or very cold weather too.

Our winter was pretty normal, I think, until March when we got into this cycle of unseasonably warm and then unseasonably cold.

Our summer, all over the country, was dreadful: cold and very wet with occasional cyclones (hurricanes to you). I'm hoping for a normal winter like the last one here: dry and sunny.

Wow! That's a lot of snow!

The weather report said we got about three inches, which would be on the high end of normal in one night if it were January or February.

That seems like a lot of snow? Not that I'd have any clue. But I kinda imagined Santa Fe was a hot place, not a snow-in-spring place.

Santa Fe weather is odd--I've lived here for almost seven years now and I'm still not always sure what's normal. We get pretty hot in the summer, with temperatures of 36-37 Celsius not unheard-of. But overnight temperatures even in the summer are rarely warmer than about 18 Celsius. Winter nights are really cold, as low as 0 Fahrenheit or -17 C, though a bit warmer than that is more normal. And spring and fall tend to be extremely variable and unsettled.

Farther south in New Mexico, out of the mountains, then you get into the hot desert.
