Yeah, I'm reading the books, because they're okay and because I can be kind of an obsessive reader, but I think the show brings more complexity. The actors' excellent performances make a difference too, because sometimes Cleeves' characterization on the page is a bit "tell rather than show" and therefore clumsy. Poor Sandy is much more engaging onscreen.
