The title for The Magnus Archives episode 162 has been released; the actual episode releases on Wednesday on Patreon and Thursday for all.

Speculation based on the episode title (with spoilers for all aired episodes, but no future spoilers because I don't know any and don't want to know) under the cut.

It's called "The Cosy Cabin."

Which . . . kind of feels like Jonny at some point said to himself, "So, you fans want Jon and Martin to be in love and safe together in a Scottish cabin, do you? Well, all right then. That's exactly what I'm going to give you."

And then he laughed. The way Elias laughed at the end of 158.

I too find that title immensely sinister, and suspect that the ep will end with Jon and Martin having left the safehouse for the wider fearpocalypse.

To be fair, sometimes he also gives us cat pictures.

Also, how is it nearly Wednesday again? After binge-listening and catching up just in time to hear 160 in real-time, I was wondering how I'd cope with having to wait a week between eps. Now I'm wondering how I'll cope with only having a week between eps.

Or, of course, it's all a red herring and the ep will not involve the Scottish safehouse in any way, because Jonny is tricksy.

*nods* I think a fanfic could interestingly explore what would happen if they just stayed there and went slowly, painfully out of their minds. But keeping a podcast audience listening probably requires actual plot.

I'm still re-listening to S4 and trying to work out what things might be plot-relevant for S5. The Web, almost certainly. Maybe the End, if the other Entities have created a world in which people live on and on in terror forever and probably long for death, but never actually die. Hill Top Road, definitely. And possibly Mikaele Salese, because him dying in a random explosion that Jon's informant knows nothing more about seems like a giant loose end. Georgie Barker's immunity to fear.

I'm hoping that a week will end up being about the right amount of mulling-it-over time between eps. But then I think of cliffhangers and get all twitchy.

Do you do his video game streams at all? They are really remarkably soothing in these times for all that he's bloodily murdering monsters over and over. Sometimes there are cats.

I haven't yet, but I probably will at some point, because Jonny. (Now, if it were Alex, I'd have watched them all already. Which is no slight to Jonny--there aren't many people I'd willingly watch play a video game--just that my parasocial response to him is slightly less, um, intense than it is to Alex.)

I will say, though, that if Jonny ever chose to stream himself playing with his cat(s), I'd be all over that.

Tangentially, I recently learned that someone I followed on Twitter, years ago, specifically because he posted videos of himself petting a cat (Guy Kelly, aka brainmage, and his #tartycat videos) actually appears in a Magnus episode! He plays Mike Crew in "The Coming Storm."

Alex is supposedly going to do one or two but I'm just like, "dude, take a nap". I wasn't going to watch Jonny's but I was at loose ends one evening and like I said, surprisingly soothing! Almost on par with a friend of a friend who streams doing art, even when he's yelling obscenities at the boss fight. YMMV of course, and it's also hard to take the spooky voice seriously after you've heard him arguing with chat about whether the werewolves are dummy thicc or not.

Speaking of characters I wish would show up again (he's not dead, just a bit Buried, right?) I also follow Guy! More recently though. I think after RQ folks were promoting his comedy show video last fall. He's really funny, although definitely one of the twitter people I worry about, for all the good it does.

I haven't been able to take the spooky voice seriously since the first time Jon-the-character forgot to do it and then had to go back and start over. Though episode 162 made the spooky voice spooky again, in a whole new way.

I would love it if Mike Crew came back! He's a bit shot in the head by Daisy, as I recall, but in this new world, who knows? (And I'm kind of hoping that part of our post-apocalyptic hellscape involves various avatars deciding this is NOT what they signed on for, and trying to change the world back.)

I've not watched one of the streams yet, but I gather that the chat for one went into meltdown because he addressed an offscreen cat but they were not able to view the cat, which is why he's now Tweeted photos of the cats. *g*

I like how much mental/emotional energy so many of us are displacing onto whether we can SEE EACH OTHER'S CATS.

This is why I've been posting a number of duck pics and videos on twitter. I don't have cats but I have other small fluffy troublemakers!
