I've given up estimating when the WIP will be done. I'm working on it every day!

Hoping we won't all be heartily sick of it by the time it's finished.

In today's little excerpt, set post-canon, Ed and Stede have a conversation. It does not go as planned.

"I'm not quite as pampered as I used to be. But I wonder why ships can't have decent food for everyone. Why does it always have to be salt pork and salt beef and biscuit? Why do the oranges have to go into grog and not into cake?"

"Cooked oranges don't work for the scurvy. Dunno why."

"All right, you'd know best about that. But the point stands."

"Might as well ask why not everybody can ride horses and wear silk."

"It's a good question."

"Your crew didn't wear silk. They didn't eat that orange cake. You and I did, and I think Roach had the leftovers."

"I've thought about some things, since then."

"Thought? Dreamed. There are people who get cake and people who get hard tack, and that's how the world fucking is. But you just - you dream. You dream and you pretend it's real and then you fucking walk away when you're done playing."
