I have a WIP again, so here's a bit of it. Our Flag Means Death, of course. Ed POV.
Lucius broke away from some kind of kissing game that was occupying him and Pete and about ten other crew and came over, plate in hand. "I saved you a piece."
It was a fine-looking cake, dark with spices, jewelled with fruit, and coated with a white sugar icing. A piratical cake, plunder on a plate. "Ta. So, er, congratulations? Is that what people say at weddings?"
"It's what they said at my sister's. But Stede said, 'I give you joy.'"
"Well, he'd know. I give you joy."
"Thanks. And for taking the watch so Oluwande could be here. That was kind."
"I'm not much for weddings. A good brawl's more my style."
"You'd have liked my sister's wedding, then. Our dad and her husband's dad hated each other."
