Trying not to get too spoilery about the book: basically, the hero and his love interest (another man, btw) have to do something incredibly dangerous in order to save the day, which is not my favorite kind of romance trope and is in any case a poor fit with the rest of the story. More significantly, the dangerous thing involves highly trained physical skills that there's no reason to think either character has. Like, the kind of skills that you might learn in a specialized military team.
I can't really recommend it unless you're in the mood for a popcorn book. Maybe not even then--I was in the mood for light and silly, and that ending still unsuspended my disbelief. Plus, it's a novella when it should have been a novel, so there's a lot that could have used more development.
ETA: I'm happy to go into full spoilery detail if you want.
