kindkitOh, god, I hate Kate Freelander so much. I hate her whiny voice and her endless skeevy sexual innuendos, not to mention her total lack of ethics, and she's not going away and I just know they're going to pair her with Henry and I am Not Pleased.
*headdesk* Seriously. I find her unbearable to watch. If she sticks around--which I assume she will, because when I was trying to find out some other show info on IMDB, I saw that she was listed as being in a bunch of episodes--it's going to make the show much less enjoyable. Unless they change her a whole hell of a lot.
I think she's a very good example of why "strong female character" is not, in itself, a sufficient or even useful guideline. She's strong, all right, but she's a bundle of clichés with no resemblance whatsoever to an actual person. She just echoes every other Amoral Kickass Chick, only more so. The fact that the show already had one (not amoral) Kickass Chick type (Ashley, who had hints of being more than the cliché but never enough development) makes it worse. It's like they only have one way of writing young women.
ETA: If Ashley really is dead, which is starting to look like it may be the case, and Kate is her replacement, then I hate her even more.
Also, poor Big Guy! He did not look happy about Henry and Kate flirting.

Date: 2011-02-21 08:11 am (UTC)Vague answers to your concerns (no actual spoilers, but in case you'd rather be completely unprepared, for highlighting): She's there to stay, unfortunately. But at least it's kinda NRE with her... in a few eps, she will stop being OMG SO INTERESTING LOOK AT HER and be toned down to 'just another team member'.
I have a surefire feeling you will be all over the (currently) last season (especially the cast) though, so it's worth sticking around.
