kindkit: Paul McDermott and Tim Ferguson almost kissing (DAAS: Kiss me you fool)
I'm not sure how ranty these rants are, but I tried.

Spoilers are possible for any of the listed fandoms, although I've made huge/not ubiquitously known spoilers highlight-to-read.

The world doesn't really need a story in which Bunny Manders, shattered and penniless after (spoiler!) (skip) Raffles' death and his own serious injury during the Second Boer War,, comes home and meets George Ives. And Ives introduces him to the Order of Chaeronea as well as having a brief but affectionate affair with him, and persuades Bunny to write about Raffles as both emotional therapy and a form of covert homophile propaganda.

Does it?

I've now seen the whole Raffles series. Christopher Strauli's performance as Bunny either got better or grew on me (a combination of both, I think) and of course Anthony Valentine was always and entirely marvellous as Raffles. Probably my favorite moment in the entire series was his delight as he plays with the new electric lights and telephone he's had installed in his flat--his pleasure is both sophisticated (the wonders of modern technology!) and very childlike, and it explains a lot about Raffles's attitude towards other people's shiny diamonds.

But my favorite thing overall is that Raffles and Bunny are so. very. married.

spoilers for both the TV series and the books )

At some point, the writers of the Raffles TV series seem to have decided to have fun with the slashiness. Examples:
The doorman of Bunny's residence, informing Bunny that his flat has been burgled: "You've been entered in the night, sir!"

Raffles to Bunny, after Bunny tells the police he's not sure he can remember all his missing stuff: "I'll help you, Bunny. I'm sure I've seen everything you've got at one time or another."

Dear people who made the Raffles TV series:

Although I don't entirely approve of your casting Christopher Strauli as Bunny, I must commend you for the scene in which we see him naked, getting a massage, in a Turkish bath. It certainly answers the question of why Raffles wants him around.
