kindkit: Paul McDermott and Tim Ferguson almost kissing (DAAS: Kiss me you fool)

I just rewatched White Christmas, which I adore in all its ridiculous, contrived, 1950s Technicolor musical glory. And now I sort of wish I had requested it for Yuletide, because I'm craving fic about how Phil and Judy don't get married, because Phil is gay, but Judy's his best pal in the world after Bob (with whom Phil is not in love, because the world doesn't need another "gay man hopelessly in love with straight best friend" story), and Phil and Judy and Bob and Betty spend their lives bantering and creating awesome Broadway shows. And Phil finds a man, and so does Judy, and everyone's happy and it's like Christmas every day!

Ahem. Yes. Some of my usual cynicism goes on hiatus this time of year.

I'm also feeling the need to rewatch all the Danny Kaye movies, because Danny Kaye is funny and charming and can sing and dance and has pretty hair and a quirkily attractive face and wears clothes well. All his characters are highly slashable, too. Danny Kaye and heterosexual romance are fairly unmixy things, onscreen and (if some of what I've read is true) in real life as well.

YES. Danny Kaye is awesome. I think 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' is my favorite, just because I watched it SO MANY TIMES when I was young.

Also, now I really need to re-watch White Christmas... I've been thinking about it for a week now.

I've never seen Hans Christian Anderson, unfortunately. But The Court Jester is one of my favorite movies ever. It saddens me greatly when I quote it and the person I'm with looks at me blankly.

XD I can't believe someone else loves Danny Kaye too. I saw and recorded on VHS a number of his films at a fragile period in my development and imprinted. I think 'The Kid From Brooklyn' is my favourite. It's kind of pure gold right from the opening scene.

None of those films were White Christmas, though. I've only seen that one once, and now I want to see it again.

I'm dreaming of Danny Kaye

Sounds like the story of my life. I've been dreaming of him ever since I was thirteen(and that's a long time ago). He has defined my standards about what a man should be like. Unfortunately it backfired, because nobody was able to meet those standards. Nobody has his genious, his generosity, his talent, his grace. That being said, those closest to him seem to have had a hard time loving him. And his movies created false impressions: In real life, spineless nerds cannot be kissed into dashing heroes. Still, I dream of him practically every day. Favorite film: definitely the court jester, with me and the colonel a close second.
