cake with boiled oranges?

Has anybody ever made one of those cakes where you boil a couple of oranges for two hours and then grind them up whole and add them to the batter? Does it really work? You don't end up with a bitter cake because of the pith?

I really want to try this but I'm nervous.

I have!

It's tasty, but can have a somewhat crumply yet heavy texture. So if you're into light fluffy cakes, it's not the best idea.
