First I was sad to learn that the wonderful Anthony Valentine has died.

Then, in a link from that article at the BBC website, I learned that there's been another mass shooting in the US, this one at a social services center for the disabled in California. At least 14 people were murdered in a military-style assault by gunmen who got away.

Now I'm even sadder and also the world sucks and what the hell is wrong with people that they do things like that???

I only ever saw the first series of Colditz but Anthony Valentine was splendid in Callan. He seemed to have a knack for playing characters in a way that made them infinitely more complex than they were written on paper.

As for the shooting, I don't really have any words.
